Self Drive Car Rental in Lahore: Why Almost Nobody Gives You the Keys
We do not offer it, and the reasons are worth reading before you book it from anyone else.
We do not offer self drive. Every booking comes with a driver. Self drive exists in Lahore but it transfers the deposit, the paperwork, the traffic challans and the damage liability to you, and the operators who offer it almost never publish the deposit amount, the excess or what you owe after an accident. If you want it anyway, the questions to ask first are below.

We do not offer it, and we say so plainly
Every rate on this site is with a driver. There is no self drive option, no self drive price list and no self drive deposit, because we do not run that product.
That is not a moral position about other operators. It is that the product has a risk profile we cannot price honestly, and pricing things honestly is the entire premise of this site. A self drive hire would require us to hold a deposit whose size we would have to justify, to carry damage exposure we could not control, and to pursue challans weeks after a hire ended. All three are things we have specifically built the business to avoid.

What actually moves when you take the keys
Self drive is not a chauffeur hire with the driver removed. It is a different contract in which several things quietly relocate to your side of the table.
- The deposit. Real money of yours, held by the company, for the duration and often beyond it. Almost never published as a figure in this market.
- The paperwork. Licence, address verification that may have to be in your name or your parents', and a guarantor. One published Lahore operator requires all three.
- The damage liability. You are the driver now. Every scratch is a conversation about whose it was, held with the party holding your deposit.
- The challans. They arrive at the company weeks later and get passed to you, or deducted, depending on terms that are typically unwritten.
- The parking. A genuinely underrated cost in Lahore, in time more than money.
- The unknown insurance position. No Lahore operator we checked publishes an excess or a cover level. On a chauffeur hire that is uncomfortable. On a self drive hire, where you are liable, it is the whole deal.
If you book it anyway
Seven questions to get answered in writing first
- How much is the deposit, in rupees, and in what form? Cash, transfer, cheque or a document.
- On what date does it come back, and what can be deducted from it without my agreement?
- If I damage the car, what do I owe? A number, or a percentage, or an excess. Not the word insured.
- Who is the insurer and what class of cover does this vehicle carry?
- What is the minimum rental period? One operator publishes one week. Most publish nothing.
- Is there a kilometre limit, and what is charged above it?
- If a challan arrives after I return the car, how will you tell me and will you take it from the deposit?
And one more
Is there a tracker in the vehicle. There often is, which is reasonable, but you should be told rather than discover it. Nobody in this market publishes the answer either way.

Can I rent a car in Lahore without a driver?
Some operators offer it. We do not. Where it is offered, the published requirements typically include a licence check, proof that your house belongs to you or your parents, a guarantor, and a security deposit whose amount is almost never stated on the website.
Why do most Lahore companies refuse self drive?
Because the risk cannot be priced. Once the customer is driving, the operator has lost sight of the vehicle and carries the damage exposure without the control. A long standing view among local operators is that reputable firms will not issue a car without a driver.
Is self drive cheaper?
The headline rate is lower. The total often is not, once you add the deposit sitting with the company, the fuel you buy anyway, the parking you now have to find, and the liability you have accepted. And a 12 hour chauffeur day is not long by comparison.
What is the minimum rental for self drive in Lahore?
One published operator states one week or more. Others do not say. This is one of the several material terms that is routinely left unwritten.
Who pays a challan on a self drive rental?
You do, and it typically arrives at the operator weeks later because the vehicle is registered to them. Ask, before booking, how they will notify you and whether they will take it from your deposit without asking.
