Rent a Car Lahore Overtime Charges: What an Extra Hour Costs
The single charge most likely to turn a cheap daily rate into an expensive day, and the one almost nobody in this city puts in writing.
Our overtime is PKR 500 an hour on every car and PKR 2,000 an hour on the SUVs, the Hiace, the coach and the Land Cruiser, starting after the 12 hour duty day. It is charged by the hour rather than rounded up to another full day, and the rate is printed against every vehicle in the rate table before you book.

Every vehicle carries a 12 hour duty day. The hour after it is charged at the rate printed in the last column below. There is no second tier, no night rate and no weekend rate.

Two rates rather than one, because an hour of a 22 seat coach with a driver who has already worked 12 hours is not an hour of a Wagon R. The split is at the SUV, van and coach line and it does not move.
Why it matters
The charge that decides which rate was cheaper
Nobody books a car planning to run over. Almost everybody does. A wedding runs long, a flight slips, a meeting in Johar Town at 5pm becomes a drive back to DHA at 8pm. Overtime is not an edge case, it is most bookings.
Which is what makes it the most important number on a rate card, and the one least likely to be there. Of 17 Lahore operators we checked in August 2026, one published an hourly overtime figure, and it sat inside a terms page that no rate page linked to. Everyone else leaves it to be settled at the end of your hire, when your negotiating position is a car in your driveway and a driver waiting to be paid.
The same 14 hour day, two ways

The advertised gap was PKR 1,000 in the other direction. Two hours of duty day and one hundred rupees of overtime rate reversed it. This is the whole argument for reading the second column of a rate card rather than the first.
The worst version of this charge
An operator that converts a late return into a full extra day. A published Lahore agreement does exactly that: late charges apply after 15 minutes, and a return more than three hours late is billed as an extra full day. On a PKR 20,000 Prado, being three hours late costs PKR 20,000. We charge two hours of overtime for being two hours late, and there is no cliff edge anywhere in our pricing.
Practical
How to not pay overtime
- Start the day earlier rather than ending it later. The duty day is 12 hours wherever you put them. Moving a 10am start to 8am is free. Ending at 10pm instead of 8pm is not.
- Book the shape of the job, not a day. An airport transfer is a fixed fare. A trip to another city is a route fare. Neither has a clock running, and both are cheaper than a day for the same journey.
- Tell us the real plan. If the mehndi ends at midnight, say so when you book. A 15 hour day quoted in advance is a calm number. The same 15 hours discovered at midnight is an argument.
- Ask where the clock starts. With us it starts at your address. Ask anyone else, because a day that starts when the car leaves a yard in Garhi Shahu is shorter than the one you paid for.

What are the overtime charges for rent a car in Lahore?
Ours are PKR 500 an hour on cars and PKR 2,000 an hour on SUVs, vans and the coach, after 12 duty hours. Across the Lahore operators whose pages we read, only one published an overtime rate at all, so for most of the market the honest answer is that it is decided after your hire ends.
When does the duty day start?
When the car reaches your address, not when the car leaves our yard and not when you get in. If the car is with you at 8am, the day ends at 8pm. An ambiguous start time is the easiest way to collect an hour nobody agreed to.
If I am 20 minutes late, am I charged a whole hour?
No. We do not charge for a few minutes at the end of a hire. Beyond that we charge by the hour, and we never convert a late return into a fresh full day.
Can I just book extra hours in advance?
Yes, and it is usually the cheaper move. Tell us when you book that you expect a 14 hour day and we will quote the whole thing up front, so nothing is being calculated while you are trying to get home.
