What Is Not Included in a Lahore Car Rental?

The six charges that turn a quoted rate into a bigger bill, why they are almost never published, and how to get all of them before you book.

Six charges commonly sit outside a Lahore rental quote: fuel, overtime after the duty day, a per kilometre charge above a distance cap, the driver allowance, tolls and parking, and tax added on top. With us, three of those do not exist at all, and the other three are published as figures before you book rather than added after the car returns.

What sits outside a quoted rate

A daily rate in Lahore typically covers the car and the driver. Everything below is what it typically does not cover, in the order they are most likely to appear on your bill.

1. Fuel

Almost universally the customer's, by one of three mechanisms: you return the tank full, you pay a per kilometre fuel charge, or you pay at cost for what was used. The first two are where money quietly leaks. A full to full policy on a car that arrived at three quarters means you have bought a quarter tank for the next customer. A per kilometre fuel rate is a fuel price with a margin inside it. Ours is at cost, against the fuel actually used.

2. Overtime

The hour after the duty day. This is the charge that most often turns a cheap rate into an expensive day, and it is the one least likely to be published. Ours is PKR 500 an hour on cars and PKR 2,000 an hour on the larger vehicles, printed against every vehicle in the rate table.

3. A per kilometre charge above a cap

Where a daily rate includes a distance allowance and charges for every kilometre beyond it. Combined with a fuel charge, this bills the same distance twice. We do not cap kilometres inside Lahore and we do not charge per kilometre, on any vehicle.

4. Driver allowance

Food and, on an overnight trip, a bed. Legitimate and universal. The problem is that it is usually named without a figure, or asked for by the driver on the day. Ours is PKR 500 for a full day in Lahore and PKR 2,000 a night out of the city, quoted with the booking.

5. Tolls and parking

Real costs that depend on where you go. On a hire inside Lahore we add them at cost, which mostly means parking and the Ring Road toll. On an out of city route fare the motorway toll is already inside the fare, so the M2 to Islamabad is not a line you pay later.

6. Tax

The one that can move a bill by a fifth. A Lahore operator's own published terms instruct the customer to add 16 per cent service tax and 2 per cent income tax to every rate on their website, while the rate pages themselves say nothing. Any tax that applies is inside our quoted figure, and there is a full explanation on the tax page.

A worked comparison

How a cheaper rate becomes a dearer day

Two sedans, both advertised in Lahore, one PKR 1,000 a day cheaper than the other. Same journey: a normal working day, 13 hours from pickup to drop, 220 kilometres covered.

The cheaper advertised rate, on terms that are common in this market

Advertised daily rate
4,500
Duty day of 10 hours, so 3 hours overtime at 600
1,800
200 km included, 20 km over at 10 per km
200
Driver allowance
500
Fuel, 22 litres, customer returns a full tank
about 8,300
Tax at 16 per cent on the rental element
1,120
Total
about 16,420

The same day with us, at PKR 5,500

Daily rate
5,500
Duty day of 12 hours, so 1 hour overtime at 500
500
Kilometre charge
0
Driver allowance
500
Fuel, about 22 litres at cost
about 8,300
Tax added on top
0
Total
about 14,800

What is assumed here. The fuel figure is 22 litres at the petrol price in the OGRA notification effective 12 September 2026, PKR 375.82 a litre. The terms in the first table are not invented: a 10 hour day, PKR 600 an hour overtime, 200 kilometres included and PKR 10 a kilometre above it are all currently published by Lahore operators, as is the instruction to add 16 per cent tax. They are combined here to show what a common set of terms does to a cheap rate, not to describe any one firm.

The advertised gap was PKR 1,000 in the cheaper car's favour. The real gap is about PKR 1,600 the other way. Nothing dishonest happened in the first column. Every charge in it is a normal charge. They were simply not on the page you compared.

The eight questions that complete any quote

Put these to any Lahore operator, including us. Write the answers down. A firm that answers all eight in figures is a firm whose bill you can predict.

  • How many hours is the day, and when does it start? At dispatch or at my address.
  • What is the overtime rate per hour, on this vehicle? Not on your cheapest one.
  • Is there a kilometre limit, and what is charged above it?
  • Who buys the fuel, and on what basis? At cost, full to full, or per kilometre.
  • What is the driver allowance, in rupees, for the day and for an overnight?
  • Is tax inside this figure or added afterwards, and at what rate?
  • Is a deposit or advance held, how much, and when do I get it back?
  • If I cancel tomorrow morning, what do I owe?

Our answers, in one paragraph

Twelve hours, starting when the car reaches you. Overtime is PKR 500 an hour on cars and PKR 2,000 on the larger vehicles. No kilometre limit and no per kilometre charge. Fuel at cost, against what the car used. Driver allowance PKR 500 a day in Lahore, PKR 2,000 a night outside it. Tax is inside the quoted figure. No deposit and no advance. Cancel more than 24 hours ahead and you owe nothing; inside 24 hours, half of the first day is retained.

Questions

Asked and answered

The questions people actually put to us on this subject, with the figures rather than a promise to discuss them.

Are there hidden charges in Lahore car rental?

Rarely hidden in the sense of concealed. Almost always unpublished, which has the same effect. The six that matter are fuel, overtime, per kilometre charges, driver allowance, tolls and parking, and tax. Ask for all six as figures before you book.

What is the single most expensive surprise?

Overtime, because it compounds with the one charge nobody thinks about: an undefined start time. An 8 hour duty day that began when the car left the office rather than when it reached you can turn a normal day into four charged hours.

Do you charge a delivery fee?

No. The car comes to your address anywhere in Lahore at no charge, at any hour. Delivery is never a separate line on our bill.

Is a cleaning or smoking fee charged?

We do not publish one and we do not charge one. If a car comes back needing more than normal cleaning we would rather have the conversation than run a tariff.

How do I make sure a quote is complete?

Ask for the total, not the rate. The sentence that works is: what will I pay in total for one day, including fuel, the driver, tax and everything else, if I drive 150 kilometres and finish in 12 hours. A complete quote survives that question.
