The road
Two very different halves
A note on drive times. Routing engines calculate mountain sections at free flowing speeds. For Murree in season, and for anything beyond it, that understates the real journey considerably. We quote the time we think it will actually take, which is sometimes longer than the number you will find elsewhere.
Winter
What changes when there is snow
- The vehicle changes. A Fortuner, Prado or Land Cruiser rather than a sedan. Clearance and traction, not comfort.
- The driver changes. Not every driver should be on a hill road in snow, and we assign accordingly rather than sending whoever is free.
- The timing changes. Leaving Lahore at six rather than nine is the difference between arriving in daylight and arriving in the dark on ice.
- The road can close. It is a hill station with a single main approach and a great many visitors. We will tell you what we know the day before.
- We will say no. If the conditions and your plan do not fit, we will tell you, including when that costs us the booking. That is worth more to you than a car that sets off anyway.

How much does a car to Murree cost from Lahore?

How long does Lahore to Murree take?
About five hours in good conditions, for roughly 335 kilometres. Routed sources give four hours and ten minutes for the driving alone, which assumes free running and no hill traffic. Add substantially in peak season and in snow.
Do I need a 4x4 for Murree?
Not in normal conditions. A sedan is fine on the Expressway and in the town. In snow, or for Nathia Gali and the smaller roads beyond, take a Fortuner or a Prado and tell us it is winter so the vehicle and the driver are chosen for it.
Can it be done as a day trip?
Ten hours of driving for a few hours in the hills. We will quote it, and we will also tell you it is a poor day. An overnight, with the PKR 2,000 driver allowance, is a much better trip.
Is parking a problem in Murree?
In season, yes, severely. A driver who drops you on the Mall and parks elsewhere is worth considerably more than the fare difference between hiring a car and driving yourself.
