Is a Security Deposit Required to Rent a Car in Lahore?
Not with us, and there is a structural reason for that rather than a generous one.
No. We take no security deposit, no advance to hold a booking, no cheque and no original documents. A photograph of your CNIC, or a passport or NICOP copy if you are visiting, is the whole requirement. You settle at the end of the hire against the figures agreed at the start. Because our driver stays with the vehicle, there is nothing for a deposit to secure.

The logic
What a deposit is actually for
A security deposit exists because the company is handing a valuable asset to a stranger and losing sight of it. It is not a trust gesture, it is a control. Remove the loss of sight and the control has nothing to do.
On every hire on this site our driver is in the car. The vehicle is never out of our custody, never driven by someone we have not trained, and never parked somewhere we do not know about. There is nothing for a deposit to secure, so we do not ask for one.

The market
A charge everyone mentions and nobody quantifies
Across 17 Lahore operators read in August 2026, not one published a deposit amount in rupees. What we found instead was a vocabulary: advance payment or security deposit as a heading with no figure under it, some money as security which we give back, a 25 per cent advance to confirm, a 50 per cent advance for luxury vehicles, and one agreement that states 100 per cent payment in advance and a 50 per cent split in consecutive sentences.
On the self drive side the deposit is the whole product and it is still unpublished. Requirements described include identity verification, a driving licence check, proof that the house address belongs to the renter or their parents, and a guarantor. What is never stated is the number, the form it takes, or when it comes back.
The three questions a deposit needs answered
How much, in rupees. In what form: cash, transfer, cheque or a document. And on what date, exactly, does it come back. An operator that cannot answer all three before taking your money is not holding a deposit, they are holding your money.

- The address, the date and the time. The car comes to you anywhere in Lahore at no charge.
- An idea of the day. Where you are going and roughly how long, so we quote the whole thing rather than the first part of it.

How much security deposit do Lahore rental companies take?
For chauffeur driven hire, no Lahore operator we checked published a deposit amount at all, although several referred to a deposit existing. For self drive the deposit is real and substantial, and it is also almost never published as a figure.
Do I have to leave my original CNIC?
Not with us. We take a photograph of it. Handing an original identity document to a business as security is common practice in this market and it is a bad idea, because getting it back depends entirely on the relationship staying friendly.
Do I have to pay an advance to confirm a booking?
No. Nothing is taken to hold a booking. Published advance requirements elsewhere in this market range from 25 per cent to 50 per cent, and one agreement manages to state both 100 per cent in advance and a 50 per cent split in the same clause.
When do I pay?
At the end of the hire, against the figures agreed at the start, plus fuel and any tolls at cost. Cash, bank transfer or a mobile wallet.
What secures the car, then?
Our driver, who is in it. That is the entire answer, and it is why the deposit question is really a question about which product you are buying.
